Hi everyone! I'm back in one piece from Thailand/Laos and am happy to bring you a review of a product that I bought accidentally and ended up loving. I know, I know, bought accidentally? Your card just fell out of your wallet Jemma, yeah sure, we've heard it before... No! This was actually on accident, as in I thought it was Whipped Caviar and stupidly didn't check the label before going through the checkout because it was in the spot where the Whipped Caviar tester was! So this colour was quite a surprise when I got home and tried it out. But before I get any further, let's take a closer look at the product:
The lipstick is in similar packaging to the Butter Lipsticks, with a clear plastic ring to show the colour of the lipstick, and otherwise sleek, black packaging. It's nice and easy to open, but sturdy enough I don't worry about the lid falling off.
Yeah... that says Butter. |
I digress, the colour was just not what I was expecting, so I didn't have high hopes. Here's a swatch:
These lipsticks are incredibly comfortable to wear, with no dryness, and have full pigmentation in one swipe - no need to continually build the colour up. I will note that I don't find these truly "matte", maybe more semi-matte or even satin finish. If you blot the colour down, it will increase the matte effect, but these look nothing like, say, a liquid lipstick such as Australis Velourlips or the Stila Stay all Days. However, I do feel this lipstick formula stands on its own as a very easy to wear, no-fuss formula, and I am definitely looking forward to picking up more colours.
Due to the fact these aren't fully matte, they also are not as long-wearing as a fully matte product would (or should) be. I would say I can make it with this on for about 4 hours until I feel the need to reapply, with reapplication required after food (drinks are normally okay). This is pretty standard with most of the lipsticks I own (with super glossy or dry matte formulas an exception), so I was pleased with this. The wear could be extended with the use of a primer or translucent powder over the top to set it.
Overall, I am happy with this purchase I made, even though it wasn't what I thought I was buying. But sometimes, things like that work out for the best, because otherwise I know I never would have discovered this colour!
Hope you enjoyed this review, and let me know if you've tried this colour (or any other NYX Matte Lipsticks) out!
